For nearly five months, the Gough Avenue sign in Lafayette resident Bob Jencks’ window contradicted the name of the street running next to his house.
Jencks propped the sign up as a sentimental decoration after it was removed from the corner across from his home in September.
“I asked one of the planners to hold one for me,” Jencks said. “It’s just sentimental, a memory.”
Soon, Jencks’ sign will be more than nostalgic as the city restores the historic street name.
Last fall, City Council changed the name to Couch Avenue, following a staff report that claimed Gough was a typesetter’s error in the 1890s…
